Teachers of Lebanon Community School District have been participating in book studies over the past few years. Here is the space to share ideas and reflections about the readings, as well as share ideas and support each other as we work towards being great educators for today's children.

Preparation for College, Careers and Citizenship--for All Pg27
I know not all go to college. I educate my first graders as if they are going to college. I teach a college prep class. What can it hurt?
I totally agree! I grew up knowing that I would go to college. It was just my understanding that that's what people did after high school. It wasn't until many years later that I realized that this wasn't how everyone thought. I assumed that because it was "normal" in my family, it was normal for everyone.
Many of our kids have never heard of college, and no one in their family has been to college, so what's the big deal? If their parents didn't go it must not be important, right? I think it is awesome that we can introduce this to them at such a young age. That gives so much more meaning to everything we teach. Why do we need to learn this? So we can grow up and have a nice house and the car of our dreams, or video games, or whatever it is that they want, but won't get in poverty.
